10. Shishigari
What is a Shishigari? I wondered when I first ran into this film a couple of years ago. Apparently, it’s an original work from a staff member of some big projects like Gurren Lagann, Evangelion, and Chainsaw Man. Shishigari is going to be his original creation and his directorial debut and I’m really excited for what I see in the trailer.
It seems to be one of those coming-of-age survival stories that takes us to the blistering mountains of ancient Japan. It was released as a short film, but a full theatrical production has been announced.
It looks like it’s going to take a while but with how intense the trailer and the short film ended up being, I can’t wait for a full version of this story. Shishigari is giving me some huge Golden Kamuy vibes and with it being a show I really liked. I can’t wait for Shishigari.

09. Slime: The Movie-Scarlet Bond
Slime has been building momentum with successive amazing seasons. The two parts of season two really push the franchise up my personal rankings with its spectacular production.
The action scenes got a huge improvement and the same goes for the story despite the previous adaptation issues, but I’ve gotten desensitized by that at this point.
So of course, I’m very excited to see where the story takes us, which is to slime’s big screen debut Guren no Kizuna-hen. This time, the spotlight shines on Benimaru, a character I’ve long been looking for.
With how successful slime has been compared to the whole crop of new power fantasy isekai, we can be sure that the movie team will be pulling out all the stops to give us a sequel to remember.
- Slime: The Movie-Scarlet Bond Release Date – November 2022
08. Witch on the Holy Night
Just in case people forgot that Ufotable has many more titles besides the Fate/Series and Demon Slayer. Witch on the Holy Night features Aoko as the main character this time, someone fans of the Tsukihime series or Melty Blood players should recognize.
It tells the story of her entering the world of magic and living with the stoic witch Alice. The two fighters threaten to enter the town until things start to change. Thanks to an encounter with a young man Shizuki, which on the Holy Night is adapted from a visual novel that serves as a prequel to both Tsukihime and The Garden of Sinners.
It’s also far more lighthearted, so if you’re up for something with similarly strong writing to the mentioned titles, without the darkness and mind-boggling moment, then this could be the fantasy movie to tickle your fancy. Witch on the Holy Night is set to release in late 2023.

07. Drifting Home
Drifting homes in the original movie tell the story of two friends who have since emotionally drifted away from each other. However, their strained relationship is tested when they enter a housing complex and soon find themselves transported into the middle of the sea.
They are stuck with each other and some other kids in the housing complex and look for a way back home. This is the beginning of a summer journey that the two friends will never forget. Wholesome, fantastic, and carrying some moral lessons.
Those are the vibes I’m getting from looking at the visuals and the trailer. With it being an original anime, I’m not sure what to expect, but I’m positive it will be one of those films that you can take your family to go and see. It also has someone who worked on Psycho-Pass and Vinland Saga in his production team, so the movie should be in good hands. Mark the date September the 16th. That’s when this movie hits Netflix.
- Drifting Home Release Date – September 16th 2022
06. SAO: Scherzo of Deep Night
You thought that they were going to stop with just one movie. SAO looks like it’s here to stay and the progressive series of movies is back at it again with its next installment Scherzo of Deep Night. The SAO progressive series of movies has been a mixed bag for fans.
With the introduction of a new character and some modified plotlines, the decision to skip straight to volume four for the second movie also leaves more questions and answers. Still progressive has shown itself to be the soft reboot the franchise had wanted ever since a decade ago, with us finally getting a glimpse into the game’s workings and Asuna’s side of the story.
It’s a slower, more complete, and more deliberate retelling of the story and he gets a lot of props for that. Production quality has always been SAO’s strong suit and I expect more of the same coming into this next movie, where Kirito and Asuna continue their journey and start running afoul of iron-clad resident PK guild Laughing Coffin.
Whether you’re someone who’s been around the fandom for a decade or someone who’s new and has the first progressive film as your entry to the franchise, this film should be a nice watch.

05. To all of you that I Loved
We have a double header for our next one. To the Only One Who Loved You, Me” and “To All of You That I Loved. What do I mean by doubleheader? Well, it’s something that’s not done too often. But the two films I mentioned will be simultaneous releases and tell two stories starring the same MC and parallel universes shown by his different choices.
Think of it as two branching roots of a visual novel given concurrent adaptations, and it shows in the setting too. This pair of movies being set in a world where people routinely travel between parallel worlds is truly an interesting approach.
One of the films tells us of Koyomi Hidaka’s life after meeting his destined girl and his father’s research institute, who soon becomes his step sibling. Meanwhile, the Koyomi of the other film decides to pursue his studies and meets a different girl, a classmate who claims to have been his lover from a different world.
Whichever film you decide to watch, one thing can be guaranteed from the overall appearance of the promotional material, prepare yourselves for a heartbreaking story full of drama and romance. It’s certainly an interesting approach with the movies and I’m eager to know where this type of release will take us.

04. Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising
How long has it been since the last mainline Madoka title? Was started out as one of the landmark thrillers of the 2010s had an abrupt end with rebellion and there was silence for years. Until it was revived by suffering the fate of half of the popular IP we have.
What I really wanted was a continuation to the mainline stories that I grew up to love way back as a relative newcomer to the anime community and we’re finally getting it. Walpurgisnacht Rising has been announced and it looks like we’re finally getting the sequel to a rebellion that we’ve always wanted.
So far, not much information has been out, but my personal anticipation is already off the charts for this one. With it being the brainchild of Urobuchi back in 2014, we are in for a ride, a grand ending to wrap up the first song of the Madoka universe. I can’t wait, but I still have to wonder why it took this long to be made.

03. Illusion Factory of Alice and Therese
Here’s a film that’s been getting quite some buzz. What amazes me is that there’s barely any information on it and it’s getting the height based on the trailer in the atmosphere in it, which by all indications looks to be a supernatural romance title.
It has that surreal vibe going for it and that’s when I found out it’s Mari Okada directing. Now everything makes sense. With an all-star lineup that also involves MAPPA, this looks to be a candidate for sleeper hit when it does drop. This movie giving me some Maquia vibes if I were to be honest.
God tear animation, a world of fantasy, and an atmosphere like that makes this not just your everyday high school romance. Let’s see how the team fares with this. It’s also MAPPA’s first original anime movie, but I still have expectations from the team. The movie should release either this year or the next, so we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed.
- Illusion Factory of Alice and Therese Release Date – Late 2022
02. Suzume’s Door Locking
The overall feel of the poster doesn’t clue you in already. This is another shingai work. This time It’s about Suzume, a 17-year-old who opens Pandora’s box through a weather door found in the mountains. Before long, doors from all over Japan start opening, bringing with them unprecedented disasters that threaten the country’s collapse.
Guided by the mysterious doors, Suzume’s journey as the door locker begins. Shinkai is at it again, combining his love for disaster stories with visual spectacles.
With many successive hits to his resume, we can set our expectations for this one and that damn sky high. Oh, and expect some Easter eggs from his previous films since that’s the thing he’s been doing recently.
Weathering With You did it and so did Your Name. However, the film will surely be one with brilliant visuals and a story that will pull at your heartstrings as it takes you on a ride full of wavering emotions. Suzume’s Door Locking releases internationally in 2023 with a Japanese release in November 2022.

01. One Piece Film: Red
One Piece is on many films already and while they can vary in quality, the excitement I have for all of them remains unchanging. The latest film that is set to drop One Piece film Red, focuses on Uta, the world famous Diva and daughter of Shanks.
There’s just a thing with adding musical characters to action series have. One Piece is here to join the fun and I’m sure that we’ll be in for a great time. I do wonder what kind of dynamics the cheer for Uta will have with Luffy and the rest of the straw hats.
I just can’t wait to see more of Shanks, one of my favorite characters in the series. Beyond all of those, I’m personally very excited for Uta singing.
The movie will have a grand total of seven theme songs and after having so much fun with Vivi not too long ago, I’m sure as hell out for more musical numbers in my anime. It’s probably a non-canon movie that’s more in line with what you’d expect from Bleach movies and the like but that doesn’t mean it won’t be an enjoyable watch.
One Piece fans will love this but also extend the invitation to people who haven’t watched any anime. One Piece Red is releasing in August 2022.
