16. My Isekai Life

Upcoming Isekai Anime 2022

My isekai life is the latest addition to the ever-growing library of isekai titles. So, what’s the gimmick this time? Monster taming power fantasy. Summoned as a monster tamer, Yuuji Sano finds himself saddled with the burden of a job that makes it hard to be an adventurer. However, being a monster tamer doesn’t come with zero perks.

Not when it lets him meet some awesome slimes, read some magical books, and see himself becoming more than just a monster tamer. No, this guy is now a sage and with this overwhelming power, he looks to become the strongest in the world. I’m getting some serious Arifureta vibes from this synopsis, don’t you?

A seemingly useless job turns some slob useful and kicks off his road to becoming the strongest in the world. It’s the sure-fire formula for a power fantasy and if you’re into the genre, you might like the show for this.

15. Fuuto PI

Fuuto PI new summer anime of 2022

Fuuto PI is a show that somewhat gives me an old-school feel. Set in the city of Fuuto, the show starts with the two heroes from the Narumi detective agency Shoutarou Hidari and his partner Philip. The two have once defeated the evil organization museum before but there’s no rest for the weary as remnants of the Gaia Memories, devices that allow people to transform into super-powered monsters, remain in the black market.

With monster sightings continuing, the two resolve to get to the bottom of the subsequent supernatural phenomena. It’s the whole mystery slash urban action feel with the superheroes, the criminal syndicates, and partners in crime.

With this being a sequel to the hit live-action series Kamen Rider W perhaps that much is to be expected. From what I can see, if you’re a fan of mysteries with a few callbacks to modern heroes, think something like tiger and bunny or Samurai Flamenco and you’ll be in for a ride.

14. The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting

The Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting new summer anime of 2022

Yakuza’s guide to babysitting is quite self-explanatory in terms of title. It tells of Tooru Kirishima, who conveniently uses the job of being the crime family’s right-hand man as an excuse to let his inner demons out. Nigh unstoppable thanks to his violent nature he’s earned the intimidating nickname “Demon of Sakuragi”, except maybe for one thing.

There are several things that violent gangsters may find themselves in trouble with. One such thing is the guy’s sudden assignment to take on one of the toughest challenges known to man, babysitting. Is this the start of a heartwarming story or a disaster waiting to happen?

I can’t help but compare this to the way of the House Husband. That show may not have had the best reception in terms of adaptation but it did show us the often-hilarious scenario of a crime boss being pulled from his life of crime and violence into more mundane things.

If you found the former quite lacking as an adaptation, perhaps Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting may be the redemptive work you’re looking for.

13. My Stepmom’s Daughter is my Ex

My Stepmom's Daughter is my Ex new summer anime of 2022

Hooray for these kinds of titles. My Stepmom’s Daughter is My Ex shows off the best of the modern light novel title memes. Clickbait spells out the premise immediately and piques people’s interests. Rom-coms can be a mixed bag overall, but I’m looking forward to this because I’m pretty sure people will be watching this and it will probably be one of the most polarizing shows of the season.

The premise is what it says in the title. Two lovers break up, their parents remarry, and voila, they’re kind of siblings. Now thus begins a hilarious ride of mind games, awkward misunderstandings, and lots and lots of craziness.

It’s certainly a rom-com with a rare premise and I’m sure it will be loads of fun with our two main leads. It’s got the premise that’s a bit of a snark bait, but from what I’ve heard, the source material is actually very interesting. It’s even wholesome at some point as well, so I can’t wait to watch this one.

12. When will Ayumu maki his move?

When will Ayumu maki his move new summer anime of 2022

When will Ayumu make his move enters to continue the legacy of a suspiciously similar pair of characters? If the art has included you in this is the next work of the guy responsible for bringing us Takagi-san and the currently airing In the Heart of Kunoichi Tsubaki.

If you know anything about these two you know what you’re in for with Ayumu diabetes but at different levels. The author just has a knack for these sweet and awkward romances and will Ayumu make his move is no different. This time the story centers around Ayumu, the shogi club’s newest recruit and the club president Urushi.

Excited to finally have someone to play with, Urushi aims to be this guy’s best mentor but she can’t help but stumble on her embarrassment. Not helping matters is the stone-faced Ayumu, who dares make the boldest compliment or while promising to confess his love only after he’s beaten her in shogi.

Will this ever happen, though? Through school and shogi, the two have some of the most heartwarming and cute misadventures. It’s not quite Takagi-san but it sure seems like a spiritual successor, so if you’re up for a heap of sweet cute romance, then you know what to watch.

11. Engage Kiss

Engage Kiss new summer anime of 2022

Original anime from A1 pictures. I know Engage Kiss has been built as a rom-com based on the tags we know but with the people involved, I can’t help but feel we’ll be getting a dash of sci-fi action in there somewhere. Engage Kiss takes place in the modern floating metropolis Veyron City where Shuu leads his mega life. Thankfully he’s got these two girls to keep things lively.

First up is the Kisara and the other is Ayano, his former colleague who seems quite rough around the edges when it comes to dealing with him. Together these three form a dynamic that ensures a lot of slapstick comedy that’s bound to entertain us for weeks to come.

What hooked me to this show personally was the staff. I’ve made it clear before that I’m a fan of both Saikano and Data a Live, and seeing the people who had a part in those titles work together gives me a sense of anticipation. There’s not much detail revealed yet but I’ll be eagerly awaiting this show.

10. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Cyberpunk Edgerunners new summer anime of 2022

For gamers, here’s a treat for you. Cyberpunk’s coming in anime form with cyberpunk Edgerunners. Netflix is at it again with its contribution to the popular cyberpunk universe. We knew it was only a matter of time before the hit video game Cyberpunk 2077 would get some sort of anime representation and that time is now. Instead of adapting the game into anime format, Cyberpunk Edgerunners tells us of a standalone story set in the game’s universe.

We don’t know much about it yet, but from the trailer, it seems to be a story of grit and guts survival featuring our protagonist who takes us on an adventure from the city of the future all the way to outer space. We don’t know much besides what the trailers show, but it already looks visually stunning as expected from Trigger. Let’s see what other surprises the guys have up their sleeves in their own element.

With a sci-fi backdrop, a plot that can go absolutely off the rails in a good way, and a space setting looks like Trigger found the perfect IP for the team. If you’ve played Cyberpunk 2077 or are one of the people who are really into this kind of sci-fi aesthetic, then you might want to give this a shot. Mark your calendars for September 2022.

09. Call of the Night

Call Of The Night upcoming fantasy/isekai anime of 2022

Here’s some vampire action for you but perhaps not the type you’d expect. I mean, our protagonist is a listless middle school student. Feeling bored with putting up his facade of being a model student, he quit school and starts his downward spiral in life, developing insomnia in the process. The weird girl Nazuna Nanakusa determines the source of his problems.

An internal will that holds him back from experiencing true freedom and so she invites him to her apartment and plants the vampire’s kiss. I know I’ve seen the premise of call of the night somewhere already, but the manga brings something great.

It’s one of those cozy comedic reads that reels you in an easy-going atmosphere before incorporating genres like a mystery. Quite a fun read from the creator of Dagashi Kashi. With an all-star cast manning the anime production team, I’ve got some high hopes for this one.

08. Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? S4

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon S4 Most Anticipated Anime of Summer 2022

It’s been a long road for DanMachi fans here. When the thing first aired, I didn’t expect it to get this far but three seasons in a movie later, here we are. DanMachi returns with its fourth season this summer. It’s as a series had its share of ups and downs, while I’d say that the franchise is in a decent spot right now. The past few seasons haven’t actually gotten on the fan’s goodwill with the cut content.

However, I can’t get any more excited with the source material that the anime team has for this fourth season. How can I not when the season will cover one of the best arcs in the entire series.

We’ll get densely packed arcs with amazing action, hyped encounters, and dungeon challenges like we’ve never seen before. As a parting note, Ryuu and Freya fans will have something to look forward to, so stay tuned.

07. Bastard!!

Bastard Most Anticipated Anime of Summer 2022

Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a while. Bastard’s never been the most popular anime out there in the 90s, so seeing this get a modernized version is nothing short of a surprise. The story is basically a dark fantasy set on a post-apocalyptic earth.

The kingdom of Metallicana is threatened by mages seeking to awaken the god of destruction. High Priest Geo decides to proverbially push the panic button in his desperation. In doing so, he unleashes the powerful wizard Dark Schneider.

Unsealing the dark wizard can be the kingdom’s only hope against the four lords of havoc but could his presence turn the tide of battle from bad to worse. Combining the standard fare of fantasy magic as well as a cast of morally ambiguous characters, bastard felt like it was ahead of the curve in its time.

Throw in the wacky metal band references and you’ll see why people often compare this to both Jojo and Berserk. Fans of both series will have something to watch and it’s coming this summer, thanks to Netflix.

06. Overlord S4

overlord s4 Most Anticipated Anime of Summer 2022

Now, this is a series I’m not surprised getting a fourth season. Overlord was a pioneer in its time back when the isekai boom was just starting to go full throttle. Who knew that watching an overpowered overlord, no pun intended there, making Denizens kneel can be so entertaining.

The series quickly captured the hearts of many and easily became one of the community’s favorite isekai. Ainz and the gang are back for the fourth installment of the series this summer. If the pattern holds true, Overlord’s fourth season should cover volumes 10 to 12 of the novel.

Source material readers know what to expect, kingdom building, adventures to the dwarf kingdom, and possibly one hell of a cliff-hanger leading to the much-anticipated holy kingdom arc. Well, I’m just so glad to see irons raise hell and flex his prowess again. Glad to have you back, Overlord.

05. Rent-a-Girlfriend S2

New Harem Anime To Watch

Rent a Girlfriend didn’t take too long to make an impact. It’s one of the most polarizing series now for many reasons. Still, as they say, polarized publicity is better than nothing, and it’s propelled the series into getting a second season. I think you’ve got to thank the discussions and weekly social media buzz for that.

I always compare it to the likes of Nisekoi and Girlfriend Girlfriend in a sense that it’s the show that bumbles around with the slice of life shenanigans developing the girls and raising their stock for fans to get invested in before catching us with a major revelation or two.

Look for more of the same in the second season of Rent a Girlfriend which means more memes, more cute moments, more Kazuya establishing himself as the most controversial hero in the genre, and more community craziness that only Rent a Girlfriend can cause. I’m definitely looking forward to this one.

04. Classroom of the Elite S2

anime like Battle Game In 5 Seconds

Classroom of the Elite makes its much-anticipated return. Nothing is impossible goes and all added. Nobody ever thought that Classroom of the Elite would get a second chance at the limelight but here we are. Classroom of the Elite tells of a utopian school. Students enjoy unparalleled freedom in this prestigious academy save for the lowest of the loan.

Class D is where the school dumps the worst students and it’s here that we find Kiyotaka Ayanokouji. He is brilliant but lazy. He gets paired with the unsociable Suzune and the class idol Kikyou. Will this odd trio overcome the odds and reach the top of the school rankings?

Now that’s the premise of the series in a nutshell. I’m honestly more curious about how they’ll fix things for the second season considering the changes they did with character writing in the first one. Yeah, light novel adaptation syndrome but much more magnified than usual. Either way, I’m excited to see the gang back so I’ll be keeping this in my sights.

03. Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer

Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer Most Anticipated Anime of Summer 2022

Wow, how long has it been since I heard that name? The manga has generated quite a buzz in the 2000s but it will be getting its anime adaptation almost two decades later. In this series, the world is threatened by a mage in his biscuit hammer.

A gigantic mallet in space is getting ready to deliver the final smash to end the world. To prevent this, our hero Yuuhi Amamiya must join the princess and a ragtag group of misfits, The Beast Knights.

While Yuuhi wants no part in saving the world, he’s indeed interested in serving the princess who wants to save the world just so she can destroy it herself. Thus, the cult classic is finally coming in anime form. It’s strange, wild, and entertaining, but all in a good way.

It’s an adventure series that combines magic, a very fun ragtag group of characters, and pinches of romance. It is quite convoluted at times, but it’s an odd tale that’s a lot more enjoyable than it might seem at first

02. The Devil is a Part-Timer! S2

The Devil is a Part-Timer! S2 Most Anticipated Anime of Summer 2022

A decade later, Devil is a Part-Timer finally gets its second season. The world’s changed and the light novel’s ending has been controversial, but that doesn’t mean that all the enthusiasm has been lost as the community reacted with joy when this announcement was made. Devil is a Part-Timer was a very popular isekai back in its day.

It tells of the demon lord Sadao being driven to earth thanks to the efforts of the hero Emi Yusa. Determined to finish the job, Emi follows him to earth only to find out that they have lost their powers. Unfortunately, the two end up being fish out of the water on earth, forced into bottom-rung jobs and the hardships of human life.

Eventually, their past catches up to them and one has to wonder how they have to deal with threats coming from their previous world. Thus, the adventure continues with the second season of Devil is a Part-Timer.

The first season has quite the legacy to speak of, so you better watch it before hopping into the second one. It’s completely worth a shot and it will help you get up to speed with what to expect from season two.

01. Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun

Made in Abyss The Golden City of the Scorching Sun Most Anticipated Anime of Summer 2022

To top off our list, the most anticipated anime of summer 2022 is Made in Abyss The Golden City of the Scorching Sun. After the third movie comes this next installment to Made in Abyss. Renowned as one of the best anime in the past decade, Made in Abyss as a franchise has continued taking us on this breath-taking descent down the abyss. Riko and Nanachi go further in this installment and reach the sixth layer, The Capital of the Unreturned.

As no one’s ever returned to the surface after reaching this majestic city, this looks to be the toughest trial that the trio will take on so far and given all the curses that the previous layers had, what else could top it all off. How about actual death? How would our plucky adventurers survive the horrors of the sixth layer?

There’s only one way to find out and it’s to watch the continuation of one of the best anime in the previous decade coming to you this summer.
